Terms of Service
Last updated: 8 May 2026
1. Acceptance of terms
By accessing Vocabingo (the "Service"), you agree to these terms in full. If you do not accept these terms, please do not use the Service. The Service may be used without creating an account; use in guest mode constitutes acceptance of these terms.
2. Description of the service
Vocabingo is a multilingual vocabulary learning app based on spaced repetition. It offers a corpus of over 7,300 common words (French, Polish, English, Spanish and more to come), organised by frequency, with a recommended pace of 10 words per day and a scheduling algorithm with increasing intervals (day+1, day+7, day+14, day+60).
The Service is available in a free tier (one language, 10 words/day) and a paid "Pro" tier (all languages, up to 30 words/day). No content is generated by users - vocabulary is provided by the publisher. Guest users can complete learning and review sessions; no data is saved server-side for those sessions.
3. Account and authentication
Creating an account is optional. It is required to save your progress, benefit from review scheduling, and access your statistics. Authentication is handled by Clerk, Inc. (USA). By creating an account you also agree to Clerk's terms of service.
You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential. Any use of the Service from your account is deemed to be carried out by you. In the event of unauthorised use, you must notify us immediately.
4. Data stored
When you use the Service with an account, we store your learning data: words learned, review stages, next review dates, daily statistics, and current session state. This data is linked to your Clerk identifier (pseudonym) and is never shared or sold. For full details of data collected, legal bases, and your rights, see our Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
You agree to use the Service fairly and in accordance with its intended purpose. The following are prohibited:
- any automated data extraction (scraping, crawling, bots);
- any unauthorised automated access to the Service's systems or interfaces;
- any attempt to circumvent authentication mechanisms;
- any use likely to disrupt the operation of the Service;
- any commercial exploitation of the Service (resale, redistribution, integration into another product or service) without the publisher's prior written consent.
6. Intellectual property
The interface, application code, design, and educational content produced by the publisher (example sentences, generated synonyms, corpus organisation) are protected by copyright. The core vocabulary corpus consists of common-use words in the public domain.
No licence is granted over these elements beyond the right to use the Service. AI-generated content (example sentences, synonyms) is provided for guidance only; the publisher does not guarantee its accuracy. To report an error, contact us via the Contact page. Spaced-repetition scheduling uses the SM-2 algorithm, © Copyright SuperMemo World, 1991.
7. No warranty
The Service is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. The publisher does not guarantee the exhaustive accuracy of educational content, nor any particular learning outcome. The Service is a learning aid, not a certified programme.
The publisher does not guarantee continuous availability of the Service and reserves the right to modify or discontinue it at any time.
8. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, the publisher shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from the use or inability to use the Service. This limitation applies even if the publisher has been advised of the possibility of such damages.
9. Changes to these terms
The publisher reserves the right to modify these terms at any time. The last-updated date at the top of the page will be revised accordingly. Your continued use of the Service after a change constitutes acceptance of the new terms. For substantial changes, registered users will be notified.
10. Subscription and billing
The Service offers a paid "Pro" subscription (the "Subscription").
10.1 – Pricing and billing
The Subscription is billed monthly (€5/month) or annually (€45/year) via Stripe Inc. Prices are inclusive of all applicable taxes. Billing occurs at the start of each period.
10.2 – Automatic renewal
The Subscription renews automatically at each renewal date. You may cancel at any time from Settings → Billing.
10.3 – Right of withdrawal (14-day cooling-off)
In accordance with EU consumer regulations, you have 14 days from the date of subscription to exercise your right of withdrawal, without giving any reason or paying any penalty. To do so, contact us via the Contact.
10.4 – Refunds
Outside the statutory 14-day period, no partial refund is issued for unused periods. If a user deletes their data from the Service's settings, the active subscription is cancelled without proration.
11. Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by French law. Any dispute relating to their interpretation or enforcement falls under the jurisdiction of French courts, subject to mandatory consumer-protection provisions applicable in the user's country of residence.
For any question about these terms, contact us via the Contact.
12. Proficiency Estimates
Vocabingo offers a free, automated vocabulary proficiency test that produces an estimated CEFR level and vocabulary-size range. The paragraphs below explain what that estimate is and is not. This section is in addition to, and does not replace, sections 1–11 above.
12.1 Nature of the service
The proficiency test is an automated, indicative estimate of your receptive vocabulary breadth in the target language, produced from a short Yes/No test format. It is not an assessment, examination, qualification, or certification. No human examiner or accredited body reviews your responses. The estimate carries a confidence interval and can vary between sittings.
12.2 No accreditation or endorsement
Vocabingo is not affiliated with, endorsed by, recognised by, or connected to ETS (TOEFL®, TOEFL iBT®), Cambridge University Press & Assessment (Cambridge English™, B2 First®, C1 Advanced®), the British Council or IDP (IELTS®), France Éducation international (DELF, DALF, TCF), Instituto Cervantes (DELE, SIELE), any Italian awarding body (CILS, CELI, PLIDA), or the Polish state examination commission. All trademarks are the property of their respective owners; where they appear in our content they are used descriptively for the sole purpose of comparability, under principles of nominative fair use.
12.3 Scope
The test measures vocabulary breadth (whether you recognise a word) only. It does not measure grammar, listening comprehension, spoken production, written production, pragmatic competence, or any other language skill. A test-taker can have a high vocabulary-breadth estimate and limited fluency in other skills, or the reverse.
12.4 No reliance for decisions
The estimate is provided for your personal information and self-guided learning only. It must not be relied upon for admissions to educational institutions, employment decisions, visa or immigration applications, or any other decision with legal, financial, contractual, or professional consequences. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we accept no liability for use of the estimate for any such purpose.
12.5 Accuracy
Estimates carry error. Confidence intervals are shown on every result and reflect the finite item set used at that sitting. Results may vary between sittings even when your underlying vocabulary is unchanged. The item pool and scoring logic are versioned (see the methodology page); a change to the version invalidates comparisons across sittings.
12.6 Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, and without prejudice to any consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded, Vocabingo provides the proficiency test on an "as-is" basis and disclaims all warranties (express or implied) of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted availability, and freedom from error. Nothing in this section limits or excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded under the law of your country of residence. If any part of this limitation is held unenforceable, the remainder continues to apply to the extent permitted.
